Description

Course looking at all aspects of stand management and health, incorporating hardwoods, softwoods and a range of forest types. It includes the assessment of trees and application of treatments. This course is derived from National Industry Competency Standards for the Forest Growing and Management Sector of the Forest Industries Training Package 2000

Successful completion of these National Units of Competency may be credited towards achieving a Certificate III, (FPI30105), Certificate IV (FPI40105) Forest Growing and Management / Forest Operations.

1.     Tree health requirements

2.     Identifying and recognising a range of species

3.     Tree assessment

4.     Stand health assessment

5.     Recognising diseases, pests and nutrient deficiencies

6.     Structural defect recognition

7.     Nutritional analysis of trees

8.     Collecting and storing samples for analysis

9.     Stand health maintenance programs

10.   Using pesticides and herbicides

11.   Legislative responsibilities of maintenance programs

12.   Gathering information and report writing.
